In commemoration of World Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Day on October 12, the following is highlighted:\nImportance of addressing this chronic systemic inflammatory disease in Colombia. Recognized as a high-cost disease since 2009, RA has been the subject of special attention with the implementation of an administrative and clinical registry in 2015. This registry, established through resolution 1393, collects essential information on demographics, comorbidities, treatments, disease activity, and associated costs, thus contributing to more efficient management of this condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the period between July 2022 and June 2023, the highest number of cases was reported. RA prevalent cases to the High Cost Account, reaching the figure of 119,089. Although there was an increase in incident cases, a decrease was recorded in 2021 due to the COVID-19 emergency. However, the last period reported the highest number of new cases since the start of follow-up. Notably, about 96% of prevalent cases were not identified in the population groups described, but among those identified, the majority correspond to Afro-Colombian people, followed by the indigenous population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rheumatoid arthritis remains a significant concern for thousands of Colombians, affecting their quality of life considerably. Awareness, early diagnosis, and access to effective treatments are essential to improve the situation of those living with this disease in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
